Upcoming Classes for January & February! January 2012Wed, Jan 11th 7-9pm: Roundtable Discussion featuring Vodou: This is a free class! Join us for an enlivening discussion about this religion! We'll be discussing Vodou's history, African roots, how the religion came to be, what Vodou IS, and what Vodou IS NOT (lots of info, from the different stages of initiation, Vodou ethics and morals, house membership, and how the religion serves the community to Hollywood "voodoo", propaganda, animals, and of course, the "voodoo doll").Wed, Jan 18th 7-10pm: Vodou Ancestor Service: at it's core, Vodou is a religion built upon maintaining family by maintaining and "serving" the spirits of the family Dead; all else builds upon Ancestor work. We'll discuss different traditional ways of venerating and serving these beloved spirits as well as different ways to build an altar to your Family Dead... a requisite for further work and exploration of Vodou and serving at home. $30 fee. Sat. Jan. 20th 8-10pm: Shamanic Journeying with Pam Panneton: An experiential workshop in which you will be initiated into shamanic journeying, meeting your power animals, teachers and begin to map the three worlds. You will be aided by the rattle and drum in a safe space. Open up to a new wisdom within for personal power and balance during these changing times. Explore the ways of a Shaman. Please bring something to cover your eyes and a mat or blanket to lie on to be comfortable. $20 class fee. CANCELLED Due to Illness: Wed, Jan. 25th 7-9pm: Psychic Development: This class will be a review class of the last two classes from all the way before the holiday season! This is to get everyone back on track. This class is taught by Shelley! $5 class fee! Thurs, Jan 26th 7-10pm: Serving the Lwa, The Spirits of Haitian Vodou: This is a big class, a lot of information! We'll be covering the different "types" of spirits honored in Vodou as well as showing the many different practical ways to perform the traditional salutes and required offerings, how to build an altar to your lwa, and how to safely serve these spirits at home from a non-initiate perspective. (please wear comfortable clothing that does not restrict movement... we'll be getting up and mobile, learning the different salutes and steps involved, including blowing rum where appropriate! be prepared to move. $30 fee. February 2012Wed, Feb 8th 7-9pm: Roundtable Discussion featuring Vodou Part Deux: We'll cover some of the same material from Jan 11th's roundtable in case folks missed that one or are new to the class, but we'll also be commenting on the experiences of the past few weeks for those who have begun serving their spirits! Lots of fun!Fri, Feb 10th 7:30-9:30pm: Animal Totems Part 2: This is the second part of the Animal Totems class from December. $20 class fee. This class is taught by Laura Carpenter. Wed, Feb 15th 7-9: Vodou Fire and Lamp Magic: All about how to make a simple illuminasyon/traditional fire working to give your Spirits light, heat, and to ask them for specific forms of work! We'll also cover non-initiate level lamp magic from within Vodou's traditions! This is an exciting, hands on workshop. $30 fee. Fri.
